"If you can't buy one, make one!" was my motto for a 1940's inspired cartwheel hat. I wanted a wide brimmed hat along the lines of the cartwheel hats of the 1940's. The problem with that was trying to find a hat in good condition, in whatever color I wanted, and for the right price.
The good new is that I was able to make one. I bought a straw hat base from Regency Austentation. The hat is technically a blank to trim into a Georgian era hat. Fortunately for me, the silhouette is about right for a 1940's cartwheel hat. The inspiration for my hat can be found here and here.
I added elastic to the hat band I put in to keep the hat on.
I made my own ribbon and lace flowers to put on the hat in addition to the fake leaves.
Here we have the finished hat!
